About Metta Creations

Metta Creations is about creating unique, functional clothing that fits well, accesories that work well, and designing products that children and parents both love.

When I began this adventure, I was sewing baby wraps and ring slings exclusively. I was thrust into the world of babywearing by my first son, who was colicky and screamed the better part of his first five months. In addition to being immediately hooked on the benefits of babywearing, a serious fabric addiction was born. Since my son was always in a carrier, what I wore became pretty irrelevant. Having a beautiful wrap or sling made me feel put together and happy, two things that were sorely needed as a new mom with a miserably sad baby. Sewing quickly became my passion as well as my ticket to sanity.

My focus has since expanded to include a broad range of children's products. Some of the reasons I began sewing my own kids' clothes are that truly warm, cute girl's clothes are almost non-existent, and boys clothes tend to be...well...boring. I live in New England and like to be outside year-round; I had great technical gear but finding good gear for the kids was another story. The more I began to sew for my own children, the more I realized what a gap there is in children's products. Metta Creations has evolved to try to meet those needs.

There's nothing sweeter than a baby snugly wrapped, and seeing the children around me wearing clothes that were made with so much love makes me feel pretty great.  I also love beautiful fabrics and creating functional art, so I suppose it was inevitable that I would eventually begin making my own line of wraps and other baby wear. Now a mom of three, I make all my children's clothing in addition to their wraps and slings. My years working in the running industry have given me a solid understanding of what components are needed to make outstanding technical gear for the little guys. A Web designer for more than ten years, I use sewing as a way to design in a new light, transitioning from the virtual to the tactile.

What is Metta?
Metta can be described most simply as "loving kindness." A fundamental Buddhist belief, Metta is a pali term expressing a strong wish for the welfare and happiness of others, a universal and all-encompassing love.  To practice metta is simply to practice compassion.

The Metta Sutta
